Alan is Arch Henderson's Senior Partner. He is based in the Glasgow office specialising in the design of maritime structures and heavy engineering structures. He is a policy leader and experienced design team manager who has successfully brought the Glasgow office from embryonic status to the largest in the firm.Alan has specialised in maritime civil engineering since graduating from Glasgow University in 1990 with a BSc in Civil Engineering and has worked in private practice with Crouch and Hogg/Fairhurst until 1996 and with Arch Henderson since that time. He has been a partner with Arch Henderson LLP since 2003.During his formative experience he worked on the Clyde Submarine Base in Faslane before taking charge of the design of new ferry terminals for Caledonian MacBrayne at Mallaig and Armadale where he undertook the design work as well as supervising their construction. He also worked on the slipway in Leverburgh and on the new facilities at Brodick.Since joining Arch Henderson LLP he has been heavily involved in the slipway modifications throughout much of the Caledonian MacBrayne network which was required to allow their fleet to be rotated after the Skye boats became available for other routes. He has also worked on the shipbuilding and boatbuilding slipways throughout the Clyde and has been heavily involved in BAE SYSTEMS’ yards developments for new Frigates, Destroyers and Aircraft Carriers. His work includes Ro/Ro terminal designs for Associated British Ports (Troon), Argyll & Bute Council (Dunoon) and for the new terminals for Western Ferries as well as work on piers, harbours and slipways for most of the Port Authorities and Councils in Southern Scotland.In his spare time Alan is a keen windsurfer and dinghy sailor as well as being a seasoned traveller.
