Darlington Midrange Engine Plant

I currently support on highway product for a major bus manufacturer in the United Kingdom . The vehicles are exported to markets worldwide . My Main support areas are Uk and Europe. The main part of the role is ensuring the effective 1st time repair of vehicles by the Cummins worldwide support network that are in the Base warranty / Extended cover periods . Investigate and drive resolutions to product issues as part of a Team ethic. Deliver robust step 3 and final fix solutions and feedback to the Original equipment manufacturer (OEM). Regular face to face meetings are held to feedback and discuss ongoing issues / concerns ,proactive work with end users to ensure vehicle uptime is to the highest level possible. I also have the pleasure of selecting the Placement student on a yearly basis from university to employ , enhance and develop their skills for a future in engineering , This is rewarding in the fact that I am able to pass my experiences on and offer guidance that would benefit the student in his / her work career .

To support Darlington midrange worldwide customer base in investigating and resolving issues at the Original Equipment manufacturers premises (OEM) . These issues are known as either pre warranty start period or Before In Service (BIS ) issues. Investigations and resolutions into reported issues are part of a larger Team ethic. Investigation and step 3 and robust final fix resolutions shared with OEM via face to face meetings to ensure end user has high confidence that reported concern / issue had been resolved. A number of key Darlington customers were in my responsibility role including both on and off highway product , examples bus manufacturers, Air compressor applications , snow groomers , excavators , marine propulsion and all import engines from other related cummins manufacturing facilities, Customer were in variety of European regions Uk,Germany,France , Italy ,Greece,Poland,Czeck republic. Holland. Regular visits to a number of these key customers were made as art of my role and responsibilities

Main roles including the rig of the engine on the test pallet for a dyno performance test . A comprehensive review of the engine test data to ensure it meets customer expectations and then a de rig . Engines that were identified as not meeting customer expectations were torn down investigated extensively and the issue logged. Engines were then rebuilt and retested to stringent process controls to verify the meeting of customer expectationsIn this time period I was also given the opportunity to Take the Team Lead role in the day to day running of the production test area managing around 15 to 20 personnel. The job role included ensuring production targets were met and exceeded , assigning work stations per day ,night shift rota's, holiday requests , communication and feedback to team to ensure team development , training , reporting daily issues into higher management on equipment breakdowns , hourly production rates , production line improvement ideas.

Ensuring I delivered to the high work standards set by my peers. This included the understanding of drawings to manufacture set components to meet specifications.A just do it attitude was required to ensure the components were manufactured within the timeframe given. Regular assessments were carried out by my peers to ensure constant improvement and development was being maintained

Activities and Societies: Part of the swimming team that practised from 07.00 to 09.00 monday to friday
