I am both NED and Chair of the Finance & Audit Committee. Formerly known as Cheshire Centre for Independent Living, this large charity empowers disabled people to have independence, choice and control over their lives and remove the barriers that exist within society.

Bridgend was looking for general & strategic business guidance as it grew and met new challenges, particularly with the purchase of its building in 2018. Not an easy transaction. I mentor the charity manager so that she can develop within the role, learn new skills and gain confidence in her own abilities. Also, I introduced a better structure together with appropriate policies, procedures and governance.

I took ill health retirement in 2011 and wanted to use my considerable experience to give something back. My involvement was principally through a module "Credit Analysis" which is available to 2nd year Business Studies, Accountancy & Investment Banking students. Within the module, I delivered a number of case studies which I updated to cover key learning points and use current business / company news to show their relevance in today's corporate world. Also, I wrote a paper for final year Investment Banking students on the hostile takeover of Safeway by Morrisons with many key learning points.

After working for HSBC Group for nearly 35 years, including 15+ years in senior management roles, I have gained excellent skills, knowledge and experience. Whilst my speciality was corporate banking and corporate turnaround / restructuring / recovery; I have plenty of experience in resolving difficult / delicate situations and managing special projects. My communication skills are excellent, and I am equally comfortable talking to either a sole trader or a CEO of a FTSE100 company.
