Led 70+ employees and 200+ contractors and managed $150 million+ annual budgets to transform a century-old, 165 MBPD Refinery to be more safe, reliable, compliant & profitable. Improved reliability (UUEDC) by 20%, eliminated 186 chronic defects, and nailed the capital budget. Built a new Reliability & Mechanical Integrity Dept. to provide the necessary focus, inspection, and mechanical, machinery, instrument and electrical engineering services. Then added projects and construction to form a Projects & Engineering Dept. Formed an Engineering Alliance to add capability and efficiency. Created strategy and rallied and aligned people, resources, processes, programs, metrics and communications around it.

Held a number of challenging roles in the oil industry. Ran Maintenance turnarounds, employing up to 3,000 workers, on-time and under the $40 million budget. Managed Operations by 65 people with a $50 million annual budget that employed $300 million in fixed assets to store and handle $1.5 billion in products each year. Engineered and constructed over 50 capital projects. Developed Business and Strategies for refineries, logistics and marketing. Worked in London and Turkey to transform BP’s refining, distribution and marketing businesses, helping to improve income by $400 million annually. Worked in Sacramento to protect corporate reputation and assets during rolling blackouts and the aftermath. Researched, developed and lobbied for Cleaner fuels in California and other western states. Interned making pump repairs at Unocal oil field production operations.

Took an Entrepreneurial Sabbatical away from the energy industry and corporate America. Founded M&A Firm and sold dozens of businesses. Provided strategic and legal advice. Joined a Tech Start-up as COO. Doubled its scale and reach. Ran operations, handled key customers and negotiated commercial agreements. Survived a great recession and returned to the corporate world.
