About Aleo Pugh
🎓 Holding an MA in U.S. History from Emory University, I specialize in African American history, gender and carcerality. My work integrates the politics of motherhood, reproductive justice and carceral gendering into an analysis of the late 1970s Atlanta Child Murders. Previous research endeavors excavated an alternative legacy of Brown v. Board's aftermath through case studies of Black dissent to integration in Topeka, KS, and Charlotte, NC. My research animates my teaching interests in 19th & 20th century US History, social history, the Civil Rights Movement and Black feminist and queer theory. I've showcased my technological literacy, knowledge of adult learning theory and skills in presentation, facilitation and evaluation through diverse projects in both classrooms and nonprofit organizations. Beyond academia, I've dedicated nearly a decade to advocacy in racial justice and gender equity. Currently the Georgia Communications & Cultural Strategies Manager at Unite for Reproductive & Gender Equity, I lead culture shift initiatives to amplify the voices of young, queer, poor and working-class people of color in Georgia. Let's connect! Eager to engage with fellow academics, advocates, teachers and anyone passionate about history, social justice, or education.
