Over the past 12+ years, I have led cross-functional teams to execute 7-figure projects, reduced infrastructure costs by 30%, and improved system performance. Whether it's designing large-scale systems, driving product strategy, or mentoring engineers, I am always looking for ways to innovate and create measurable results. My career spans a wide range of industries, from cloud computing and business intelligence to bioinformatics, real estate and e-learning. This breadth of experience has shaped my ability to approach problems with fresh perspectives and a hunger to learn. I thrive on challenges and I am not afraid to run toward the fires others shy away from. Tackling the tough stuff and driving real, meaningful change is what gets me up every morning. The opportunity to mentor and empower teams drives me. At Kin Insurance and Zillow Group, I led teams of up to 50 engineers, creating an environment that encourages curiosity, continuous learning, and accountability. My goal is to inspire engineers to push beyond their limits, challenge the status quo, and deliver results that make a meaningful impact on the business.Technical skills:Data Architecture: Databricks, Kafka, Delta, Iceberg, SQL/NoSQLCloud Platforms: AWS, GCPDevOps & Automation: CI/CD, Terraform, Docker, KubernetesProgramming Languages: Java, Scala, PythonCompliance & Security: Data Governance, GLBA, CCPAWhen I am not solving problems at work, you’ll find me out in nature hiking, choosing a flight to my next destination, or at the gym dreaming of the next CrossFit Games - all while trying to convince my friends that burpees are actually fun.Let’s connect! Streaming Data Platform ArchitectPluralsight Jun 2015 - Apr 2020Draper, Ut, UsMy team creates and implements architectures that handle mixed, high concurrency workloads from a heterogeneous user base who is always hungry for data! As a result, we get to work on a pretty awesome portfolio of rewarding projects. For instance, Hydra is an open source, reactive, asynchronous, distributed, real-time Data Ingestion Platform. A "multi-headed beast", Hydra was built using Scala, Akka, Kafka and Spark. We leverage Kafka’s commit logs as the underlying persistence layer, integrating stream processing with Akka Streams and Spark Structured Streaming, for both real-time analysis and data replication targeting different sinks, including S3, Kinesis, several RDBMs, Redis and Elastic Search. Check out the source code on Github at https://github.com/pluralsight/hydra.I also work very closely with product teams and engineers so together we can conceptualize, strategize and execute Pluralsight's data mission. Stuff like data governance and quality, dataset formats, schemas, best practices, product KPIs, scalable infrastructures, etc., are all fair game! -
Principal Software Engineer | Engineering Manager, Data Platform And AnalyticsRackspace Hosting Oct 2010 - May 2015San Antonio, Texas, UsI had the privilege to work on several high profiles projects and learn from stellar co-workers, while being part of an amazing work culture and environment.I started by providing technical leadership to the Rackspace Cloud Identity team, a RESTful API providing customers and Rackers secure authentication and authorization capabilities (https://identity.api.rackspacecloud.com). This was a critical service within the cloud infrastructure that received over 30k requests/minute.After, I was responsible for defining the architectural direction of the Cloud Analytics platform across the entire development stack: OS administration, algorithms, Hadoop, APIs, schema design, all the way up to UI and data visualization.I also worked closely with strategic partners and product management teams to define the engineering backlog and the overall product roadmap for the analytics team. All this built on top of a pretty solid technology stack, which included Hadoop (back in the day where Hadoop was just so magical), Hive, Hbase, HDFS, Oozie, Sqoop, Pentaho, Kettle, Python, Java, Jersey, CXF, JSON, Atom, Maven, SOAP, WSDL, JAX-RS, Spring, JPA, AOP, Hibernate, EHCache, JGroups, Spring Data, Spring Hadoop, and many others. -
Lead Software EngineerEspn, Alturatech Mar 2010 - Oct 2010Bristol, Ct, UsLed a small team of software engineers and graphic designers to build a multi-tiered platform to assist with the real-time collection, storage and analysis of basketball data. The software was designed specifically for ESPN's basketball announcers to capture play-by-play data as the game was taking place. Needless to say, it was a lot of fun to develop!Development was done exclusively with the .Net framework. More specifically, C# and WCF to build the backend and service layers, and WPF for the graphical interface. Some of the frameworks we used included NHibernate 3, Spring.Net, LINQ, and MathDotNet. -
Principal Software Engineer | Team LeadWalt Disney World Jan 2009 - Feb 2010Lake Buena Vista, Florida, UsTeam lead for the Mobile Magic project, the first mobile application built by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, created in a partnership with Verizon Wireless. The application, the first of its kind in both the mobile and entertainment industries, featured real-time notifications, GPS driven content, attractions and fast pass wait times, character meeting schedules and dining reservations. The core infrastructure consisted of a highly available, distributed content management platform accessed through a RESTful API using the RSS/Atom feed format.I also led some smaller projects including the creation of SOAP and Restful APIs for the OneSource content database.Technologies used included Oracle, WebSphere, JPA, CXF, Axis, JAX-WS, JAXB, Maven, Spring, Metro, XML, WSDL, SOAP, REST, JMS, ATOM, and others. -
Principal Software EngineerPentaho Jun 2007 - Dec 2008Santa Clara, Ca, UsHad the unique opportunity to work with a stellar team in creating one of the most popular and technologically advanced open source B.I. tools available in the market today.I spent a good deal of my time working with the Pentaho Data Integration (Kettle) platform, where I designed and implemented several enhancements while working closely with the open source community to define requirements and define goals for the product line.I also worked closely with both the B.I. server and the accompanying admin console. Some of the core frameworks and technologies we used included Java EE, Hibernate, Spring, Web Services, JMX, GWT, SWT, Tomcat, and many others. -
Principal ArchitectTravelatro May 2001 - Jun 2007Led a mid-sized engineering team through the many perils and pitfalls of building a multimillion-dollar software platform from the ground up at an early stage startup.Servant leader of a team of passionate and hard-at-work Java ninjas, back in the day when writing remote and local interfaces for EJBs was all the rage, WebSphere was one of the top application servers available, Struts was the defacto web framework for Java and front-end pages were built using a combination of HTML, Tapestry, and your own custom JSP tags. Good times!

Senior Software EngineerOutstart 2000 - 2001I was a senior engineer part of a team tasked with the daunting challenge of rewriting the company’s e-learning software platform from Dynascript to Java, which turned out to be a huge learning and humbling experience for us all. Things didn't always look bright but we in the end we prevailed! Also implemented a custom reports engine, increasing company’s yearly revenue by 30%.
