The UK is home to the world’s most ambitious and longest-running longitudinal studies, tracking the same people over a period of time - in some cases, from birth until death. CLOSER (Cohort and Longitudinal Studies Enhancement Resources) aims to maximise the use, value and impact of these longitudinal surveys, both at home and abroad. It brings together eight leading studies, the British Library and the UK Data Service to stimulate interdisciplinary research, develop shared resources, provide training and share expertise. Take a look at our website for more details of what CLOSER does and the resources we have created to help researchers and anyone interested in finding out more about longitudinal studies. These include CLOSER Discovery, an online resource that enables researchers to search the data from eight leading UK longitudinal studies.CLOSER is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Medical Research Council (MRC).
Head Of Research, Society And Social Change Team
Led a team of quantitative and qualitative researchers who worked across a wide range of subject areas including participation and engagement, housing and energy. The team's projects ranged from small scale, fast-turnaround qualitative and quantitative projects to multi-million pound continuous surveys for government and mixed-method evaluations. My role focused on strategic planning, new business development, delivery and quality assurance - while I also continued to be involved in specific research projects such as the British Social Attitudes survey and its reports, the International Social Survey Programme and the European Social Survey.
Head Of Social Attitudes And Housing Group
Led the quantitative research team responsible for NatCen's attitudinal work, including the annual British Social Attitudes survey and important strands of its sister survey, Scottish Social Attitudes.During this period I also had a leadership role in disseminating and promoting NatCen's research, and delivered BBC Election Night analysis as part of the BBC's coverage of local, European and general elections.
Director
I set up NatCen's office in Scotland, establishing its first contract wins with the Scottish Executive and pioneering the first Scottish Social Attitudes survey, through funding from the Economic and Social Research Council.
