About John Allen
I am an undergraduate student at Carnegie Mellon University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering with an additional major in Engineering and Public Policy. I am interested in public policy surrounding air, climate, and chemical regulations. Throughout my undergraduate career, I have gained critical skills for policy analysis including Benefit-Cost Analysis, Sensitivity Analysis, and Monte Carlo Simulation. In chemical engineering, I have interest in the air quality, climate, green energy, and defense sectors. In addition to my undergraduate coursework at Carnegie Mellon, I have 47 credit hours from Concord University which I completed in high school. Coursework completed at Concord includes upper-level chemistry coursework including Analytical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry Lab, Instrumental Analysis, Instrumental Analysis Lab, and Chemical Laboratory Safety. Additionally, I was a teaching assistant for the General Chemistry I laboratory course during the spring of 2023.During the summer of 2024, I worked as a research intern at Concord University developing a microwave synthesis method for Copper(II) Oxide nanoparticles along with Cerium doped Copper(II) Oxide nanoparticles. Throughout the internship, I used my knowledge of chemical engineering principles and chemistry to efficiently develop a robust synthesis process and begin optimization of concentrations for precursors.
