Water quality surveys including E. coli sampling in 20 streams in Wheeler Lake Basin. Watershed assessments in the William B. Bankhead National Forest including stream and riparian habitat surveys, aquatic surveys for macroinvertebrates, fish, and freshwater mussels, and feral hog usage in riparian areas. Stream sediment collection and analyses for bacterial and heavy metal contamination. Mentorship of undergraduate and high school students (NACEE-Upward Bound) in GIS, remote sensing, and environmental sciences. Public outreach using the Stream Trailer, a mobile watershed display featuring a recirculating tank. Appropriate for educational workshops, public festivals, or individual classroom instruction for ages 8 years and older. Lessons vary from the water cycle, environmental stewardship, to land use and erosion prevention.
