Following the success of the first round bid for a landscape Partnership Scheme I joined the team to develop the 2nd round bid. After recruiting 2 new members of the team and with the support of project partner organisations, I produced a Conservation Action Plan for the Nene Valley, with 16 ambitious built, natural and community based heritage projects. Within a year, I was inspired by the team to learn more about the environment. So whilst developing my knowledge of local planning policy, funding and public realm at work, I began studying for a degree in environmental management at the University of Northampton. After also welcoming my third child during this time, my appreciation for work life balance changed significantly. Although demanding and often testing, the combination of raising a young family, whilst studying and working in a public focussed role, helped me understand what was important and how impactful all elements of my life were in my community. During my years with BCW I was able to support the delivery the Croyland Garden play area (https://www.wellingborough.gov.uk/info/200079/projects/902/public_realm/2 ), the renovation of the Castlefields historic bandstand and the town centre mosaics (https://www.wellingborough.gov.uk/news/article/1048/historic_town_centre_mosaics_to_be_restored)I obtained my degree in 2011 and began working on the Wellingborough Townscape Heritage Initiative (https://www.wellingborough.gov.uk/thi) a Heritage Lottery funded (HLF) project. This role helped lay the grounding for my next HLF project. I helped to develop and write the 2nd round bid and all the supporting policies. During delivery I managed claims and reporting and also designed and managed a training and grant offer. My favourite element of this project was working with local historians and community groups to produce heritage trails and community events, including a new ‘Simba’ walk for the international Waendel Walk (https://www.wellingborough.gov.uk/news/article/897/trails_launched_to_explore_town_centre_history) Show less
