About Amanda Phillips
I believe the conscientious application of data analytics is an integral strategy in addressing emerging issues in marine policy and research. I aim to unite my background in marine biology and a graduate degree in data science to address comprehensive ecosystem management.I discovered a passion for Puget Sound marine ecology and resource management after a midnight plankton tow in the San Juan Islands; watching patterns emerge from chaos was thrilling and I was hooked. I sought an undergraduate degree in Aquatic and Fishery Sciences from the University of Washington and continued to work in the marine and environmental industry for the following decade. Whether working on fishing vessels as a biological observer, scooping fecal matter from southern resident killer whales or exploring the depths of the Salish Sea with a remotely operated vehicle, I have sought positions that unite data science and ecology. Through the University of Washington, I have sought to expand my skills in data mining and analysis, programming, and machine learning, as well as expand my background in statistics. My current research is as a Data Management Specialist with the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission in support of NOAA Fisheries Conservation Biology for the West Coast, defining fishing communities in the context of integrated ecosystem assessments and management.
Listed skills include Data Analysis, Environmental Science, Field Work, Science, and 1 others.
