Served as one of three center operations specialists for the Grafenwoehr USO. Assisted in overseeing center’s social media to attract volunteers and donations, generate interest in upcoming events and publicize past events. Maintained a safe, cleanly and inviting environment for military and civilian guests by facilitating and/or performing preventative and routine facility and equipment maintenance. Responsible for center’s day-to-day activities, including safety and monitoring and maintaining readiness of supplies, equipment and facility. Organized and promote weekly and monthly programs and special events that serve thousands of local community members. Recruited, trained and supervised volunteers, assigned them with daily tasks, ensured they provided quality customer service and received recognition. Requested new or updated policies and procedures to supervisors as needed. Served as Grafenwoehr USO volunteer from September 2016 to January 2017.

Fort Riley, Kansas

Promoted to take over duties as division public affairs office’s lead civilian contractor. Interacted daily with a variety of people, to include Department of Defense officials, service members and their families, veterans and the public. Worked with local organizations like the USO and AUSA to disseminate information on events and programs to the public. Supervised award-winning civilian graphic designer, award-winning videographer and public affairs specialist. Completed routine evaluations and reviews and maintained time-off requests for three civilian contractors. Provided feedback and served as subject matter expert to division and brigade public affairs soldiers and staff on photography, writing, editing and other media-related skills. Wrote and edited clear and effective communication materials, such as messages on behalf of several commanding generals, news releases, print stories, social media posts and radio scripts. Advised public affairs and division staffs on media issues, editing and content. Worked with local, regional and national media outlets to coordinate coverage. Led efforts to ensure consistent, quality products spoke with one voice on behalf of division. Served as sole military reporter on staff of NBC affiliate in top 100 market, working from bureau to produce on-air and online news pieces about Fort Hood, Texas, and the military community. Worked with lead anchor as military and field producer to research and produce in-depth stories about soldiers and Army issues. Worked to give coverage an “insider” feel and sound.

Killeen, Texas

Continued duties as lead military reporter. Recognized for efforts by local Association of the U.S. Army chapter. Continued writing breaking news, in-depth reports and features while supervising military coverage by Herald staff. Responsible for weekly military edition of newspaper, to include all proofreading, editing and story selection. Embedded at National Training Center and Joint Readiness Training Center with units. Embedded with multiple Fort Hood units in Iraq and traveled throughout the country to produce photographs and stories. Led in-depth, local coverage of Nov. 5, 2009, shooting at Fort Hood. Newsroom given top investigative and breaking news awards by Texas Associated Press Managing Editors for that coverage. Appeared on national television and radio news broadcasts to speak about impact of the event on the local community.

Provided extensive coverage of post and local military community for daily newspaper and weekly military edition, the Fort Hood Herald. Embedded at National Training Center and Joint Readiness Training Center with two Fort Hood units prior to their deployments.

Fort Riley, Kansas

Covered a variety of garrison departments and active-duty units for a weekly Army newspaper as a GS employee. Wrote and shot photos, which included features and in-depth reports that were disseminated through-out the Army and to local media as press releases. Spent two to three days a week in the field with units and served as a media escort as needed.

Maintained three beats (Fort Riley, city government and nightlife). Wrote breaking news and features. Produced 10 stories or more a week while shooting photos and designing pages. Served as reporting intern from June 2000 to August 2004

Served on a daily college newspaper staff on a campus of about 27,000. Paper won two national Pacemaker awards during that time. Photographed Division I sporting events. Won honorable mention in general reporting in 2004 from Society of Professional Journalists
