About Amanda Shaw

Amanda Shaw is a Director of Career Education, Center for Career and Professional Development at Sacred Heart University. She possess expertise in higher education, public speaking, microsoft office, fundraising, event planning and 12 more skills. She is proficient in French. Colleagues describe her as "Amanda was my supervisor during my time as a Graduate Assistant in the Russell Sage Office of Career Planning (from August of 2017 to May of 2019). As a healthcare student with minimal exposure to the world of career planning, Amanda’s knowledge was invaluable. She trained me on all aspects of my role. She also requested and incorporated my feedback throughout the training process (and beyond), which I appreciated, and provided importance guidance. Amanda also empowered us to work independently and to pursue projects that we were passionate about. This worked because Amanda is a strong communicator. Her skills not only ensured that I felt valued and supported, but that I always felt connected to the mission and priorities of the office. And as a somewhat sleep deprived, frequently stressed-out graduate student, I so appreciated Amanda’s flexibility, humor and warm personality throughout it all. While juggling numerous responsibilities in a fast-paced and ever-changing work environment, Amanda was committed to researching best practices, implementing new programs and growing the footprint of the Career Planning Office. She is creative and tenacious. She led many (many!) seminars and events and is a skilled and experienced public speaker. Amanda’s leadership also fostered greater confidence in my own skills -- to meet individuals where they are, understand each person’s unique situation, and work collaboratively to solve problems and meet goals. I use these skills each day in my current job. She is a true professional, an admirable leader and an all-around cool person. Working in Career Planning was such a positive experience for me. You rock, Amanda!" and "To Whom It May Concern, My name is Kelly Burns and I have known Amanda since the summer of 2018. At the Sage Colleges Amanda Shaw was my supervisor while I was working as a Graduate Assistant for the Office of Career Planning. When I first met Amanda, she helped me with the training and on boarding for my new position using a holistic, student centered approach. At the time of my employment I was studying for my master’s in occupational therapy. Career planning was completely new to me and I had very little background knowledge. Amanda’s comprehensive training and on boarding taught me so much and made me feel confident in my new role. She made me feel supported and was incredibly helpful whenever I had questions or when there were gaps in my understanding. When providing the department with information, Amanda utilized researched based strategies that were relevant and up to date. While working for the Office of Career Planning, Amanda created a collaborative, team based inclusive environment. Amanda was in charge of organizing many school based community events. With each event, Amanda handled herself professionally and demonstrated the ability to think on her feet. She utilized her strong organizational, leadership and networking skills at these events. When people work with Amanda they are motivated to do their best. She brings a bright, upbeat energy to every work task that makes you get excited about what you are doing. Her friendly demeanor that will light up any room and make everyone feel comfortable. Amanda is honest, hardworking and dependable. As a dedicated, knowledgeable and all around great person, Amanda is a beneficial addition to any department. Sincerely, Kelly W.
