I was the early contributor to Wave terminal, a brave attempt to replace the arcane command-line terminal by a modern open-source React (Electron) based. Working with the founder directly, I was involved with early decisions on the Architecture, Design patterns, Coding organization etc. Working with a true-blue Silicon Valley startup, this was one of the best engineering experience since my own startup.

Language learning Apps like DuoLingo have pioneered the field of Mobile based language learning. These Apps, however, come with their own fixed content. This makes them unsuitable for a school environment, which normally have their own curriculum to follow. BiliTutor solves the problem by creating an empty mobile/web App, Bilingual Editor and a LMS.I moved to Shanghai in 2016 to start BiliTutor with my Chinese Co-founder. We were able to draw over U$5m in Angel funding from some of the top Edtech investors in the region, and were able to raise a small team of 30 developers and language content creators. The project became a big success on WeChat (China’s WhatsApp), and was also piloted at some major universities in China. I also took the project to Delhi, where I was able to pilot it at JNU and Amity University. BiliTutor was featured amongst selected startups in the Indian LanguageTech space at Bhasha 2016. I also took the project to Sydney, where BiliTutor secured a place in BMC Accelerator Program, and was awarded the NSW Govt MVP Grant 2017.In late 2017, after stabilizing the technology and the team in Shanghai, I sold my stake to my Chinese co-founder and moved back to Sydney.BiliTutor introduced me to the challenges faced by the AI-based Language Learning paradigm. It introduced me to Computational Linguistics, and made me appreciate the complexities of NLP and other Machine Learning based human-assisted education. It also gave me a deep insight into the burgeoning startup ecosystem, and into the complexities of running a business across India-China-Australia. I also had a first-hand experience of dealing with Chinese partnerships, which deepened my appreciation of Chinese personal and business values.Tech stack: Node, Angular, jQuery, AWS, CMS

Shodogg (rebranded as Mash Music) is a NY based startup, which had pioneered screen sharing solutions before Google Chromecast. One of their Co-Founders, Geoff Sykes, created a team in Sydney to apply the technology to the Hospitality industry. This required creating new Mobile and SmartTV Apps, and also building upon the original cloud-based screen-sharing product.I was the CTO and the first member of the technical team in Sydney. I recruited a team of ten developers and designers, and created a new suite of products for SmartTV / Mobile pairing. I was deeply involved with managing pre-sales, installation and post-sales support of the product. I was also instrumental in preparing the company for outsourcing, finding the right outsourcing partner, and eventually seeing through the outsourcing. I remain as an advisor to the CEO, who has since then, moved the company to SFO. I delivered the entire product suite in less than U$2m and 10 headcount over a period of 14 months.I had a chance of transforming an established product in a new market-vertical. Raising a multicultural team of developers in Sydney and seeing the projects from inception to conclusion was a challenging but rewarding experience. Getting exposed to the Hospitality and Video streaming industry was a new experience, and so was outsourcing a project to Vietnam.

As many banks in Singapore/Malaysia moved their IT to Shenzhen in China, Polaris (now Polaris Virtusa) was in need to start a China office to service their BFSI customer base. I relocated from Sydney to Shanghai to start a delivery center for Polaris. The Delivery Center serviced Polaris’s Chinese and Japanese customers, and also acted as the localization center for Polaris’s product suite (now called Intellect).I relocated from Sydney to Shanghai to head the Delivery Center. In partnership with PCCW, I delivered projects in excess of U$1m, and was later responsible for managing a U$5m sales pipeline. I acted as the Account Manager for China and HK accounts, and was working closely with the APAC head office in Singapore. I was also actively involved in a potential acquisition of a Chinese software company. The greatest learning was doing business with China. Managing a team of Chinese and Indian professionals and doing stakeholder management in Chennai and Shanghai deepened my understanding of the Chinese and Indian business culture. I was also deeply involved with the Indian Consulate in Shanghai and Beijing, and represented the Indian IT business community through CII and FICCI. Being a part of the Chinese startup ecosystem helped me start my next venture, BiliTutor. Having half of my family as Chinese makes me understand the Chinese value system, and helps me appreciate the cultural similarities between India and China.
In 2006, I finished my MS thesis on a compiler for embedded devices. Back in the time, Mobile device market was heavily fragmented by Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, etc. Whie it was possible to write J2ME midltes (we call them Apps now), because of a large number of target devices, rigorous testing and regular maintenance was required, which made the production of such Apps quite expensive. I came up with a new language called OML, and a compiler for it, that would provide a uniform framework for creating J2ME midlets. The framework was similar to Kony, OneApp, Appcelerator, etcI was introduced to Polaris (now Intellect’s) founder, Arun Jain, through Nucleus Software’s former MD, Yogesh Andlay. Arun invited me to Chennai to start Polaris’s Mobile Center-of-Excellence. In a small team of about 20 engineers, I was able to create various Mobile banking applications, including Internet Banking, Stock Watch, Mobile Collections, etc. We got some good success with Citi India, BIDV Vietnam, Qatar National Bank, etc.As a young engineer, I was introduced to the glamorous but challenging world of entrepreneurship. Being mentored directly by Arun Jain and Yogesh Andlay was the greatest learning experience for me. I was deeply involved with FICCI and TiE, and was able to learn a lot about the business of selling software. Managing a team of engineers, both younger and older to me, was a great learning experience at an early age. I was also able to build my public speaking and PR skills while I co-hosted technology awareness programs on NDTV, and was involved in organizing startup conferences and events in Delhi. I was able to meet the then PM, Sh Manmohan Singh, alongwith British PM Gordon Brown and Richard Branson, while I was representing young Indian Entrepreneurs to the UK delegation. Those early years of my life transformed me from an engineer to an entrepreneur, and turned me from a machine enthusiast to a people lover.

Oracle Australia had recently acquired a Utility sector company called SPL World Group. Their first product implementation in Australia was with Energy Australia. I was the Project Engineer for this implementation. I underwent Product training in SPL's headquarter in Minneapolis, and was responsible for the customization and implementation of the product in Sydney. That was my introduction to Project Management and Stakeholder Management.

I was recruited for a Graduate position with IBM after my BE at UNSW. During a 2 year rotation period, I was moved between Developer roles (Java, Lotus Notes), Consultancy (Commbank) and Business Development roles. I was awarded the IBM Australia Innovation medal for a buiding a Unix Shell Scripting tool which save a huge amount of effort and money on a website migration project. After the Grad program, I returned back to UNSW to commence my Phd in Computer Science.
