Software Engineering Team Lead Ii

Current

Westwood, Ma, Us

Lead of a Full-Stack Platform Engineering Team building components, services, and extensible functionality to support other teams. 70-30 split between Management & Planning, and hands on keyboard coding. Features of note include:+ Building an Attribute Based Access Control system to replace the traditional Role Based system. This included designing a Gremlin.NET API driven Graph Database to represent attribute-access policy pairings and how users access is representing. APIs, Libraries, nugets, and npm packages were created to support CRUD, aggregation, and utilization of the user access data. Azure Functions and webjobs are used to migrate data from the old "RBAC" system to the more granular "ABAC" option. + Virality though sharing and invitations. The traditional PI system is sales led and very hands on. In order to keep up with latest trends; word of mouth marketing and self-service flows were adopted. To support this, my team and I built generic tooling that allows existing users to invite others to the multiple products as well as share specific items such as a candidate or team. This in addition to self-service signups has driven unique user growth and active user totals.

Feb 2022 - Present

Software Engineering Team Lead I

Westwood, Ma, Us

Lead of a Full-Stack Platform Engineering Team. Promoted to Lead II in February. See above for more details.

Software Engineer Team Lead

Atlanta, Ga, Us

In addition to the role and responsibilities of my previous position, I facilitate more of the day to day team operations from a managerial level. We still operate under scrum principles so protecting the team from interruptions is vital to their overall success. This could mean with our product team to give technical feedback on the road-map or researching a potential issue before it's escalated. Outside of the daily tasks, the growth of the code base and overall compliance are two areas that require research and preparation. As compliance regulations change and software becomes obsolete, it's imperative that the work we put out is up to standards and of the highest quality; minimizing technical debt. I work closely with the Product Team to ensure the user stories I create still serve the company yet further the engineering agenda. As a lead, it would be easy to research how something "should" be done or deliver edicts on execution; however, I prefer to work with the engineers to get differing opinions. This open communication has proven to be the best way for me to engage my team on what's coming and keep them excited for the changes. I often created Proof of Concepts to show the desired result but often leave the implementation to their collective creativity. The trust we built is visible through our growing velocity and overall code health.

Oct 2019 - Apr 2021

Full Stack Software Engineer | Certified Scrum Master

Atlanta, Ga, Us

My primary tasks were the design, coding, and upkeep payroll and remittance software for migrant workers across the world. As a full stack developer, the details of the day vary. On a DevOps level, deployment implementation included builds pushed to multiple environments via Azure Pipelines and Octopus. I often had to manipulate data with SQL server, including creating tables, triggers, stored procedures, and functions. On the backend, I mainly worked in C# but did have fun with the occasional Clojure or Node for smaller projects. React and traditional MVC User Interfaces round out the front end. The entire flow is instrumented with various alerting and debugging services, some internally created and some external tools such as Azure's Application Insights or New Relic.Outside of managing the software, I assisted in teaching and building an agile foundation that had the direct impact of doubling our velocity within 6 months. I also took ownership of our instrumentation, providing insight into user flows and exceptions to inform product decisions. This coupled with my ability to uplift my teammates and keep the development team focused in a lively small company, Fintech atmosphere was what prompted my promotion to Team lead in October 2019.
