About Amelia Hagen-Dillon
I'm a multi-media cartographer specializing in highly-detailed maps connecting people to the places around them. In the 13 years I've been making recreation maps I've always been driven by the sense of wonder that comes from looking at a good map. I don't like to tell people where to go, I like to build tools for people to be creative about where and how to explore their world. I started my career building print maps from the ground up, from field data collection to data processing in GIS to using Adobe Illustrator and MaPublisher to make the most accurate, detailed maps available. Now I work in navigation app software development, building Mapbox vector tiles with a OpenMapTiles-based pipeline and writing Mapbox stylesheets to create a family of basemaps with unique cartography that meets the needs of various customer cohorts while maintaining consistent branding. I've also been a writer, and graphic designer who has worked on multi-faceted stories about conservation and complex environmental issues. I can obsess about shades of green or spacing between map elements all day but I'm also a big-picture thinker who excels at project design and management, data analysis and interpretation, and creative and aesthetic presentation. My colleagues would describe me as an eager learner and a motivated team player who maintains a positive attitude in the face of adversity. I'm looking for opportunities with organizations or conscientious brands that will benefit conservation, public lands stewardship, and climate resilience.
Listed skills include Fundraising, Community Outreach, Teaching, Public Speaking, and 14 others.
