Anne Bennett is Head of DCAF's Sub-Saharan Africa Division, responsible for multiple initiatives supporting democratic governance, rule of law, and respect for human rights. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Hirondelle USA, a non-profit organization that supports local news and information in countries emerging from conflict or faced with humanitarian crisis. Ms. Bennett is a former Senior Fellow and Visiting Scientist at the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative. She previously worked as a Consultant at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), United Nations Office in Geneva (UNOG), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) from 2001 to 2006. With expertise in programme design, implementation and learning, Ms. Bennett has extensive experience working with global nonprofits, governments and multilateral organizations to development and implement initiatives to further the rule of law, consolidate peace, and foster equitable development in conflict affected and resource poor environments. She is a strategic thinker with a proven track record of advocacy and public speaking at high-level meetings on topics that include women’s empowerment, governance, human rights education, public health and transitional justice. Her extensive field experience includes assignments in North East India, Algeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali, Niger, The Gambia, Madagascar, Sudan, South Sudan and Myanmar. Bennett graduated from University of California with a degree in History and holds a Masters in International History and Politics from the Graduate Institute of International Studies, University of Geneva.
