Amresh Kumar first became interested in the philosophy of education through the the works of J. Krishnamurti while he was studying physics at St. Stephen's College, Delhi University. Subsequently, he pursued his studies in philosophy for nearly a decade, first in India at Delhi University and later in the US at the University of Maryland at College Park. His interest in Krishnamurti grew alongside and, eventually, he returned to India and joined Rajghat Besant School, Varanasi, in 1997. After a few years, he moved to Sahyadri School, Pune where he worked for 21 years. He worked for a year at Vellore International School, Chennai for a year before moving to Ahmedabad University in 2024 as the Dean of Students. His main interest lies in exploring the many-layered challenges of contemporary education in the context of living and learning in an educational setting.He has over 25 years of experience in the education sector, most of it in residential schools. He has a special interest in working together with colleagues in nurturing the right kind of school culture so that deeper dimensions of school education - including self-awareness and lifelong learning - can be explored alongside academic learning.
