Director Of Network Partner Capacity And Innovation
Efnep Director
Direct the federally funded Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP). The Director is responsible for all aspects of program direction and administration. This includes conducting needs assessments, hiring, placing, training, supervising and evaluating staff. It also includes long-term strategic planning, managing and authorizing use of resources, identifying training needs, arranging and conducting training, collaborating with community, state and regional agencies and UVM faculty/staff, developing and selecting curricula and other educational materials, establishing new programming initiatives, developing, interpreting, and executing policies, improving program efficiency and effectiveness, and reporting programming efforts and effectiveness to UVM Extension, USDA and other funding agencies.
Translating Universal Recycling For Vermonters
Designed and completed a participatory-action research project with a team of Food Systems graduate and faculty researchers to assist state and county-level administrators in constructing effective implementation of the household level food waste diversion requirements of Vermont’s Act 148: Universal Recycling Law. The process included enhancing knowledge domains related to: food waste, policy development and implementation, public communications and local values. This project utilized a mixed-methods approach: ethnographic observation, informational interviews, two-form survey development and qualitative and quantitative data analyses. Project culminated in reports for state and county administrators, a presentation of the research and recommendations to a broad stakeholder audience, and tangible social marketing strategies and materials, both conceptual and concrete.
Field Researcher
August 2006-May 2007 Designed and completed research project to investigate barriers to improving National School Food and Nutrition Programs through interviews, focus forums, and review of policy, regulations, and statistical data. The culmination of this project was the implementation of local purchasing for the school food program, securing grant funding for equipment, establishing essential relationships for Food Service and Administration, and the initiation of a School Wellness Committee.
