Assistant Director For Undergraduate Programs
Life Design And Career Coach, Academic Advisor
I supported the academic and career pursuits of College of Arts & Media students, prospective students and alumni through developmental and exploratory advising, life design strategies and processes, and career coaching techniques. My approach to supporting students was to offer a holistic advising experience, appreciating and uplifting the individual student journey. In addition to daily advising duties, I supported career initiatives and programming for the college, particularly the annual college-specific Internship and Job Fair. This fair connected students and alumni directly with employers in the creative industries, resulting in a number of internship and job placements. I helped to manage our college's internal career mentorship program, offered monthly life design and career readiness workshops, and coordinated a life design guest lecturer series.
Academic Advisor
In this position, I embraced a philosophy of student development to foster academic and student success by providing individual and group advising to undergraduates from the various colleges. Given this, I remained adept in the requirements from all the colleges within the University of Colorado Denver. I was responsible for managing and monitoring a caseload of diverse students in their development and progress towards their chosen undergraduate program. Furthermore, I worked collaboratively with advisors and faculty from the undergraduate colleges and staff representatives to provide timely and accurate information regarding requirements for selecting a major. I helped to develop and facilitate the dissemination of information for sessions and workshops for new freshmen, transfers, non-traditional, veteran and international students. I contributed to the planning and implementation of orientation advising sessions held each academic year. I worked with the university’s Office of Institutional Research to track students identified as needing remediation as defined by the Colorado Department of Higher Education. In this role I track and provided support for students on Academic Probation, as well as programmatic support for the metro area’s first community college to CU Denver matriculation program, the Admission Promise Program, offering academic advising and support for participating students. I helped to inform them of opportunities to attend CU Denver activities which pertain to their intended major, and engage them in the CU Denver community prior to matriculation at CU Denver.
Project Specialist
Under the supervision of the center director, I was responsible for the daily delivery of services. This position required that I assist in creating and implementing academic enrichment and retention programs and I was responsible for the maintenance of records on program services, evaluating program activities, budgetary tracking, and preparing written reports. One major initiative included conducting needs assessments of ASAC advisees regarding learning outcomes of all programmatic elements. I assisted with developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating learning enhancement activities and workshops, as well as maintained records on all program services and evaluate and report on all activities. Additionally, I was responsible for periodic supervision of student staff, and take on the duties normally performed by student staff in the absence of student staff. I represented ASAC at various university and community meetings and functions and participate on college-wide committees. Furthermore, I maintained budgetary related records in accordance with University and state standards.
Internship Coordinator
In this position I worked directly with job seeking candidates and employers to identify internship opportunities that provide a mutually beneficial learning experience for interns and a value to employers. I developed internship site and position opportunities and track this information for all Workforce internship programs. Furthermore, I conducted employer outreach and marketing activities that enhance the current internship database and educate employers of Workforce Boulder County business solutions. Finally, I provided clients with employment and skills training sessions to facilitate job attainment and retention.
Employment Transition Specialist And Orientation Facilitator
I provided assistance to individuals participating in the Work First program, which helps with employment services to TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) clients. I assisted clients in successful transition from welfare to work, provided intensive levels of client contact and documentation, and conducted assessment of employment barriers. With this I also aided in career counseling and developed employment plans. Furthermore, I aided clients with supportive service needs and budgeting responsibilities, as well as coordinated services with other agencies. This position also required comprehensive data entry in order to maintain program and client records and facilitate job readiness training activities. Additionally, I presented bi-weekly orientation sessions for new Colorado Works clients, and utilized essential programs to create new work participation plans.
Labor And Employment Specialist
In this position I provided customer service in the delivery of the Colorado UI program. I explained and clarified departmental policies, state and federal laws pertaining to Colorado Employment Security Act (CESA) and Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA). I instructed claimants of their responsibilities and rights while protecting the interest of the Department. Furthermore, I performed inquiries regarding compliance, wages, account history, rate computations, and benefits. I directed and coordinated the UI claims-taking activities of individuals filing for all types of Colorado liable claims. I also adjudicated non-monetary non-separation issues after conducting investigative fact-finding, researching law sources and applying knowledge of state and federal statutes.

This position necessitated that I oversee 70 student organizations on campus, meeting regularly with their presidents and treasurers. I researched, developed, and implemented a year-long leadership training series, and helped to present these workshops twice a week. I was the graduate student advisor of the Student Funding Board, which helped to allocate funds amongst all of our 300 student organizations. I also aided in all Office of Student Involvement major events.
