Amy Jo Smith serves as president and CEO of the DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group, the leading trade group for the home entertainment industry representing the interests of the world’s largest media and entertainment companies, consumer electronics manufacturers, service platforms, online retailers and software firms.A former White House communications advisor, Smith since 1997 has led the industry-funded group’s efforts to enhance and promote home entertainment during its wholesale evolution from videocassettes to DVDs, Blu-ray Discs and today’s digital age, including the introduction of 4K. Under Smith’s leadership the DEG is credited with helping to make DVD the fastest growing consumer electronics product in industry history. Today, the DEG is firmly established as the industry’s leading authority on home entertainment trends, sales and developments, working to promote such recent digital initiatives as Digital HD, Ultra HD 4K and high-resolution audio. Smith coordinates development of standards for physical and digital products, as well as working to streamline the home video supply chain from manufacturer to consumer.Smith was inducted into the Video Hall of Fame in 2009. In 2007, Smith was the recipient of the Visionary Award presented by Home Media Magazine and Hollywood Reporter. Since 2005, Smith has been included every year on the annual Video Business’ Women Elite list.Prior to joining the DEG, Smith worked in the Clinton White House and as an aide to Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan.A University of Pennsylvania graduate, Smith serves on Penn's Annenberg School for Communication's Alumni Advisory Board, Penn's Southern California Regional Advisory Board, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and the Tom Sherak MS Hope Foundation
