I firmly believe in the power of experiences as education. After living in all of the states starting with a 'C' I moved to Chicago for college and Australia upon graduating. I then spent a few years living in Asia and as a vegetarian, consistently ending up with pork in my tofu motivated me to learn Chinese. (I also once ended up in the wrong city... turns out there are two cities called Taizhou outside Shanghai)I was intrigued by this new land and wanted to share the gorgeous places that broke the stereotypes of an overpopulated land jammed with industrial sprawl. So, I combined a passion for rock climbing and co-authored a guidebook to travel and climbing around China. I worked as an outdoor education specialist, cycling guide, taught English, and my knack for human connection helped me pivot to a role as technical sourcer - all helping fund exploration and put up new climbing routes in the Himalayan foothills and alpine with my now husband and friends. The pandemic rocked my world, plucking me out of Nepal on a US embassy-organized repatriation flight. I had a Covid-style backyard wedding and now as a new mom, my priorities have shifted. As a former climbing guide, outdoor education instructor, and ESL teacher, I am well-versed in helping people learn through practice and application individually and collaboratively, so NovoEd is a natural fit. Let's chat - I'm all about a social learning experience that allows people to fail safely on their way to success (because believe me, I've made a few hilarious mistakes while trying to learn Chinese)
