At EnergySolution I work with CO2 mitigation for industrial clients, Sustainability Assessments via Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) or Environmental Product Declarations (EPD). My main objectives at AgroTech (a division under Danish Technological Institute) was Biofilm mitigation in Food and Beverage productions systems, Brew, and agriculture production (e.g. Chick and Hen production systems), development of Cradle to cradle (C2C) business opportunities and project management. Development of business opportunities based on sound scientific background and innovative solutions for clients are among my main interests. I primarily worked with solving agro- and food industry related problems. As an Innovation Agent (“InnovationsAgent”) I promote innovation in small and medium sized enterprise (SME) with special focus on technology. I produce innovative solutions in the areas of sustainable business development, cradle to cradle, and beverage innovation. Specialties: Project management (e.g. Prince 2), biofilm control in technical system, biofilm development and mitigation in food and beverage production system, control and illumination of microbial growth, application of nanoparticles in industrial systems, climate change mitigation through lifecycle assessment (LCA) & cradle to cradle approach to product innovation. At iNANO my main R&D objective were to develop surface coatings for the food industry and to reduce bacterial attachment in production facilities. Further, I worked on development of functional surfaces that are easy to clean. The overall objective was to study, and generate a deeper understanding of the different aspects of bacterial adhesion, and biofilm formation. Many bacteria adhere to surfaces form biofilms and are difficult to eliminate because they attach firmly and irreversibly to a surface. Biofilm are difficult to remove by physical means, and the industry invests large sums into cleaning and avoiding biofilms. I investigated how structural properties and functionalization of Sol-Gel surfaces with e.g. embedding different nano particles affect bacterial adhesion and retention. Some selected results are that we were able to develop and produce Sol-Gel surfaces which fewer bacteria adhere to compared to stainless steel. Bacterial adhesion was further reduced by adding nano particles, and roughness is probably the most important single factor.
