For over 21 years, I have been leading the recreational services at Odyssey House, a non-profit organization that provides comprehensive services to people with substance use disorders, mental health issues, and homelessness. As the Deputy Director of Recreational Services, I oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of recreational programs and activities that promote physical, mental, and social well-being for our clients. I also coach and train a team of recreational staff and volunteers, and ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards. Some of the skills that I have developed and applied in my role are coaching, motivational interviewing, and customer retention. I use coaching techniques to empower and support my staff and clients, motivational interviewing to help them explore and resolve their ambivalence, and customer retention strategies to increase their engagement and satisfaction with our services. I am passionate about therapeutic recreation, and I hold a Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation from the City University of New York-Herbert H. Lehman College. My mission is to provide recreational opportunities that enhance the quality of life and recovery of our clients, and to foster a culture of respect, diversity, and inclusion in our organization.
