I worked as a claims adjuster in Southern California's workers compensation system where there was never a dull moment. Some of the more trying and memorable moments was working with agitated attorneys, claimants and in the end eliciting cooperation. Of course, there was the satisfaction of settling large cases and protecting the assets of the insurer. My greatest satisfaction came from building relationships and solving problems. I assisted with case management of adult offenders by monitoring their conduct to ensure terms of probation were met. Working with adult offenders was a life lesson in adapting quickly to different environments, cultures while representing a branch of law enforcement in a positive light. I learned about the importance of communication, organization and time management. We may be the last person that has the ability to inspire an individual to change his/her ways before incarceration. It was my job to protect the public and victims from further crimes.
