This conference was unique, being jointly hosted by the HTAA, the Social Education Association of Australia and the Geography Teachers Association of SA. 450 delegates attended the 3 day conference. I was humbled to be re-elected for a second term, serving from 1998-2001, during which the National Inquiry into History Teaching in Australia was undertaken and concluded. The Inquiry was in many senses the prelude to today's Australian Curriculum in History. During my long involvement with the HTAA I served on the National Council, on the National History Challenge Advisory Board, the Simpson Prize Advisory Committee and chaperoned students on the Simpson Prize trip to Turkey and Gallipoli for the 85th anniversary year in 2000. Federal Education Minister David Kemp presented me with an award recognising my service. Show less
