About Andrew Waters
Experienced leader, manager, and project director with a broad background in areas of conservation planning, organizational administration, natural resource and environmental policy, grant administration, and fundraising. I have experience in building coalitions and developing relationships among a diverse network of agencies, organizations, and donors. In my current role, I am the farmland preservation coordinator for Chatham County, North Carolina, responsible for administering the Chatham Agricultural Preservation and Development Trust Fund, a working-lands conservation easement program. I also manage other outreach, planning, and administration functions of our county-wide farmland preservation program. Previously, I was an executive director, manager, and leader in nonprofit land conservancies, participating in the conservation of over 30,000 acres across the Carolinas and administering over $25 million in land conservation grants. I have experience in board management and solicitation, fundraising and development, and financial management. As the volunteer director of a statewide nonprofit association, I established a policy committee to focus on statewide policy initiatives, facilitated partnerships with other statewide associations and organizations, and directed a formal organizational planning process leading toward establishment of a formal nonprofit corporation. In 2022, I completed a PhD in natural resource policy at Clemson University, where I also serve as an instructor in the Master's of Public Administration (MPA) program. With a background in publishing and editing, I have significant experience in writing and communications, with numerous publication credits in both academic and popular publishing.
