As part of the Build Solutions and Research & Development teams I have spearheaded efforts in improving internal tooling, understanding and improving product truth for startups, and developing strategy for technical learning content and documentation for startups.

As a CTO in Residence I was principally engaged in developer advocacy – talking to startups, understanding what they’re doing and how Microsoft can help. I have been a speaker at multiple conferences, as well as helping spearhead efforts to understand early-stage startups and how Microsoft can best engage them.

I moved development from an agency and built an internal team. Responsible for product direction, I led the product team to imagine, prioritise, design, build and ship features with customer feedback at the centre. I contributed to company strategy, building a solution for health systems in the US and Australia, and validated new lines of business using low-code solutions. I took a lead role in security & privacy, focusing on technical and procedural controls as well as staff training.

I arrived at Zova as the first technical hire, to convert a prototype of an iOS fitness app into a production app (on a global scale). I managed and built the iOS app and Ruby (Sinatra) back-end and managed contractors until building the development team in 2015.I planned and built the Zova tvOS app, featured at the launch of the new Apple TV, including creating technology to stream heart rate data from the Apple watch to the Apple TV and overall product management, prioritising features and building from a clean slate to a totally new exercise experience in the living room. Zova won an Apple Design Award in 2016. I built and managed the infrastructure using AWS. I built an in-house analytics and reporting system and facilitated data-driven product decisions.

As Technical Community Manager, I helped Ninefold understand the communities who use their products. I close the feedback loop between the communities and Ninefold, allowing Ninefold to understand what its users need and also helping users get more out of Ninefold's products.

My role at Pinion was focussed around providing insight into the large amount of data produced by running an advertising network. Using packages such as Hadoop, Hive, Graphite and custom data processing and collection tools written in Ruby and node.js I helped provide the basis for a data processing and collection system.

As a Software Engineer at Westfield, I worked primarily on the search systems underlying their e-commerce platform as well as on the numerous moving parts which made up Westfield’s architecture. The environment featured several Ruby on Rails applications, a Postgresql database, Redis and Resque for key value storage and queuing and Solr as a search engine.During my tenure at Westfield I was involved in major improvements to their stack including building a test harness to ensure search quality, adding search capabilities for centres and retail chains, improving the reliability of processing feeds from retailers and migrating from svn to git.

At Chomp I was responsible for maintaining and improving the existing python based crawlers, as well as writing new crawlers and improving their operations.

At Lexer I was responsible for designing and building a tool to monitor social media. I was responsible for creating the system almost in its entirety (the one section of the code that I did not "own" was the javascript front end).The system included crawling and data processing components written in Python, a search engine first implemented in Solr then migrated to Elastic Search, a Riak cluster, and a Ruby on Rails front end.
