Kinvolk are the Kubernetes Linux experts. Founded in Berlin, Germany in 2015 by a trio of open source technologists, the company established its reputation through ground-breaking projects such as the rkt container engine (developed in collaboration with CoreOS), systemd, and Weave Scope (BPF-based container monitoring). Kinvolk maintains and provides support for a number of open source projects including Flatcar Container Linux (a fork of CoreOS Container Linux) and Lokomotive (a Kubernetes distribution inspired by CoreOS Tectonic). As believers in open community collaboration, Kinvolk sponsors and co-organizes the All Systems Go! and Cloud-Native Rejekts conferences. Customers include major technology vendors, innovative start-ups, and end-users deploying Linux and Kubernetes.At Kinvolk, I led the transformation of the company from a consulting to product-based business, and closed services and subscription deals resulting in >50% annual revenue growth. I also established the company's first customer success team, with a 100% renewal record. Finally, I led the M&A process leading to Kinvolk's acquisition by Microsoft in April 2021.

With more than 250 OEM customers and deployments in every major carrier network globally, Metaswitch is the leading provider of IP routing and MPLS software to the networking industry.General management responsibility for all aspects of Metaswitch's networking software business including sales, engineering, support, and product management. Defined and executed strategy for extending existing OEM technology licensing business to the high-growth area of software-defined networking (SDN).At the same time as driving the traditional OEM business (driving consistent >20% annual growth), following an evaluation of SDN opportunities I initiated the investment in Project Calico. Seeing the potential for Calico, along with Kubernetes, to transform the cloud native industry, I worked with the CEO and Board to spin Tigera out of Metaswitch as an independent startup to develop and commercialize Calico.

Overall responsibility for all aspects of the marketing of MetaSwitch's Class 4/5 Softswitch product line and MetaSphere service delivery platform. Responsibilities include development of strategy, messaging and collateral, external relations, and speaking at industry events. As a key member of the senior management team, I helped grow the business from early-stage start-up to a #1 market position with $150 million revenue, leading to significant investment by Francisco Partners and Sequoia Capital.

Blindsight developed assistive tech products for low-vision and active aging. I advised the CEO through a sale process that resulted in the company's acquisition by A9 (Amazon) in 2014.

MetaSwitch was the startup division within Data Connection Ltd focused on carrier VoATM and VoIP solutions.Launched MetaSwitch's new carrier systems products into the US market; built marketing team and managed West Coast sales team, personally closing several of MetaSwitch's first customers.

DCL's Collaboration Business Unit developed MeetingServer, the first conferencing solution to support both Web-based access and standards-based 'thick clients'. MeetingServer powered products including Cisco MeetingPlace, BT's web conferencing service, OneTouch Systems' satellite-based distance learning solutions, and EMC/Documentum eRoom.net hosted project collaboration software.Established and ran the business unit, having devised and proposed the product concept and business strategy. Built the engineering and support teams, and personally led all sales efforts.

Managed successful projects developing peer-to-peer real-time conferencing software for customers including Microsoft, PictureTel (now Polycom), HP and Sun. This software shipped with operating systems such as Windows and Solaris, and became the de facto collaboration application for nearly a decade, with millions of active users.
