Subject areas include flood inundation, dam breaks, levee breaks river hydraulics, transportation facilities, channel restoration and stability, fish-passage facilities, water/wastewater facilities, fish trapping and collection systems, water supply planning, scour, and suitability of habitat for select species.Leads multi-disciplinary teams in flood mitigation or risk reduction studies. Studies typically involve site reconnaissance, literature review, hydrology and hydraulics analysis, public involvement and relations, identification of flood mitigation or risk reduction alternatives, benefit costs analysis, and environmental impacts assessments.

Performed 3D numerical investigations (RANS and LES) investigating fundamental flow physics and mass exchange processes in a river reach containing multiple groynes (spur-dikes). Quantified the exchange of pollutant between embayment and the main river channel. Assessed how mixing takes place over the embayment depth. Completed 3D numerical simulations (RANS) in Pool 16 of the Upper Mississippi River investigating flow patterns in and around freshwater mussel habitats. The simulations established baseline hydrodynamic conditions in the reach and serve as a starting point for habitat restoration efforts in the pool. Executed 3D Hydrodynamic (RANS) and Total Dissolved Gas Simulations at Rock Island Dam Spillway investigating effects of spillway deflectors on increasing survival of downstream migrating juvenile salmonids on the Columbia River.
