As the Design & Development Manager for Apeks Marine Equipment Ltd, I oversee the product design of our high-quality diving regulators and scuba diving equipment. I manage a team of design and development and test engineers and industrial designers to create ideas and new products for underwater breathing life support.In my position as Design & Development Manager at Apeks Marine Equipment Ltd, I gather with my team to brainstorm and research potential new ideas for various scuba diving products. Precision engineering is needed when creating new designs as they need to be suitable for selling to the recreational, military, professional, commercial and aviation safety product markets. Our product design must adhere to both the sales & marketing along with consumer requirements.I am also tasked with managing an Injection Molding team, who design and produce injection mold tools for producing plastic components which meet the product design requirements of our internal and external customers.My other duties and responsibilities include being part of the senior management steering team, where I help to develop the company’s objectives, targets and visions. I understand what is needed to achieve and implement those targets.I am frequently tasked with challenging research and development work in my position as Design & Development Manager. The work is engaging as I must be on my game to be able to create new high-end, high-quality lifesaving products. I initially started work as a Draughtsman for Apeks Marine Equipment. My role entailed draughting all engineering drawings that would be needed for manufacturing work to be carried out. This role was very important as draughting of the designs enables the drawings themselves to be physically manufactured.My position required that I redraw hand-drawn designs using a CAD software called Solidworks, creating a digital copy of the design which can be digitally stored for quick and easy reference. These 2D drawings were then converted into 3D CAD models as well as assemblies and drawings. As I progressed through my role I eventually transitioned into design engineering work.While my position had me copying over already created plans, I enjoyed the creativity of using CAD software and creating very detailed drawings of a large range of products. During this role, I began to understand the needs and requirements when working in manufacturing and learning about all of the CAD design processes.The skills developed whilst working as a draughtsman still come in hand to this day as the Design & Development Manager for Apeks Marine Equipment Ltd.
