I develop electric motor, gas engine, and automatic transmission controls for Tula's revolutionary Dynamic Motor Drive (DMD) and Dynamic Skip Fire (DSF) powertrain technologies. I also build powertrain analysis, simulation, control / DSP, and calibration tools to support rapid DMD/DSF development and implementation.For DMD, I currently have primary or small-team responsibility for high-performance field-oriented control (FOC), torque modulation controls, adaptive angle resolver error compensation, and NVH characterization, simulation, mitigation strategies, algo design, and calibration.For DSF, I worked on multiple gas engine functions including air estimation, cam control, and mild-hybrid-based active damping, as well as general improvements to algo efficiency, legibility, and latency reduction. I developed a near-production-quality automatic transmission calibration for our Delphi TCM / Aisin 6-speed / VW Jetta demonstration vehicles, and remotely managed Delphi development of DSF-specific features.

Synthesize, model, and develop control systems for these transmissions, and guide development of proofs-of-concept.Invented 2- and 3-range synchronous-shifting powerflows which maximize the benefits and minimize the drawbacks of the unique 'continuously variable planetary' variator, making it a viable choice for a wide range of vehicles and engines.
