Trading Standards Officer I am a qualified inspector of weights and measures who was positioned within a multidiscipline retail team dealing with both civil and criminal law. My duties included the inspection of retail businesses with the objective of achieving business compliance. Consumer complaints were triaged and investigated on a daily basis and business advice was provided where necessary. I undertook many investigations into breaches of trading standards legislation which saw me produce investigating officer evidence at matters within both the magistrates and crown court environment. In approximately 2015 I joined the food and farm enforcement team within the trading standards department. Duties included the inspection of food manufacturers for food standards, weights and measures law and feed hygiene. I also undertook the position of home authority officer for several food manufacturers located within the local authority area.I have led on many local food sampling activities and represented the local authority in national sampling programmes such as operation OPSON.Professional Lead - Test Trace and Protect In June 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic I was appointed the position of Professional Lead within the newly formed Test Trace and Protect service. Contact tracing was designed to interrupt the spread of transmission (Covid19) by informing positive cases and their contacts to self-isolate. My role as Professional Lead included the daily management of both contact tracers and contact advisers. Senior Official Controls AuditorI joined the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in 2020 as a Senior Official Controls Auditor located within the Audit Assurance Team. My current role is to provide assurance that official food and feed controls undertaken by local authorities in the performance of their statutory duty to enforce food and feed law, are done so in accordance with the expectations and standards set by the agency. During my time with the agency, I have additionally undertaken two staff loan opportunities which have resulted in me taking up temporary appointments within the food standards team. I have worked on a number of national projects such as the covid-19 surveillance sampling programme and the design and pilot of the new food standards delivery model. I have additionally worked closely with a number of external stakeholders to progress the developments of the food standards reference manual.
