While at CO2Sense I led the development of a £12m not for profit low carbon investment fund, managed and grew the sustainability and technical consultancy business. I also designed, won and delivered £10m of government and ERDF funding for environmental business support programmes .I helped businesses turn sustainability into a practical and beneficial reality, making savings or creating new income streams, and growing commercially and socially while reducing their carbon emissions.I developed two complimentary strategic approaches:CREATING THE SUPPLY - CO2Sense helped resource efficiency, low carbon and renewable energy sector businesses to start-up, grow and launch new green products and services. They provide research and develop new markets and invest in businesses and projects.BUILDING THE DEMAND - Working through in-house specialist teams, CO2Sense help all businesses to use water, energy and waste more efficiently; to introduce greener design and environmental management; to reduce carbon emissions and access renewable energy.This is arguably a unique combination? Responsible for national Glass recycling strategy, communications and promotion, lobbying and environmental legislation issues. I helped the industry negotiate, lobby and communicate on the packaging waste directive, the EU-ETS and CCL.I ran award winning trade and consumer marketing campaigns and forged lasting partnerships across previously entrenched divides between competitive packaging materials. This led to the creation of a high impact packaging industry group which established a joint strategic approach and constructively shaped industry and government policy and legislation.

Developed through a range of roles from product designer to create and lead Rockware’s Concept Design team in 1995. Established and lead the marketing team as the business grew into the UK’s leading manufacturer of glass packaging, producing 2.5 billion units from four manufacturing sites.Broadened the team remit to include business development, creating the award winning freshThinking innovation programme. Increased glass recycling by 250,000 tonnes, investing £7m in world leading technology and ultimately saved £1m per year on energy costs. Supported the acquisition of a major collection partner, supply agreements with local authorities and developed the widely recognised GLASSFOREVER school education programme. This package of activities led directly to the award to Rockware of the internationally prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development in 2002.
