Service Manager for Learning Services Worcestershire - Post-16 education delivered and managed by Worcestershire County Council. Young Adult Learning is our specialist team working with partner organisations to provide accessible learning for 16-19 year-olds in small, calm settings which provide a great alternative to college and sixth form for young people with SEMH and SEND needs. Our 19+ Adult Learning team take learning into community settings, offering a great range of skills courses such as English, maths and digital skills alongside creative studies programmes to help build confidence and bring communities together. Vocational programmes also on offer include hair and beauty qualifications, and training for teaching assistants.

Extending from my previous roles within the council's Adult and Community Learning department, I have now taken on a specialist role dedicated to whole-service Teaching and Learning Improvement with specific responsibility for managing English and maths provision. Additionally, I have project management responsibility for our Skills 4 Work programme, funded as part of a European Union initiative.

As Family Learning Manager, I have responsibility for management of Adult Learning opportunities across the county of Worcestershire which have a focus on improving the lives of families through increased levels of skills. I liaise on a daily basis with partner organisations such as schools, children's centres, Voluntary and Community Sector organisations and libraries, etc. to provide solutions to identified learning needs within communities.I also have responsibility within my remit for quality assurance and improvement within our service and support colleagues in activities such as developing stakeholder consultations, conducting observations of teaching, learning and assessment, analysing service processes and implementing improvements, creating training programmes for the continued professional development of our staff team and producing self assessment reports and service plans.

As Community Learning Manager, I had similar responsibilities to my current role as Family Learning Manager, but the focus was on adult-only learning and did not involve other family members. Our learning opportunities are designed to be local to those that require them and provide solutions to barriers which might otherwise stop someone taking part in learning.

I had a mixture of responsibilities with Dudley MBC. Much of my role was hands-on teaching and I worked mainly with learners for whom English was a second language and taught ESOL classes. I also worked with groups with both physical and learning difficulties to provide life skills classes, Family literacy courses and beginner's ICT. I also had responsibility for co-ordinating other learning projects and engaging tutors to deliver courses.
