Anna Maxwell has been working with children, families and professionals impacted by trauma and abuse since 1995. Anna’s passion for working with children led to her being awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship which allowed her to successfully complete study and training with some of the most well-known child and family therapists in America and England including Dr Gary Landreth, Dr Violet Oaklander, Dr Bruce Perry and Dr Janina Fisher. Anna has completed training with The ChildTrauma Academy (USA) and is certified in using the NMT© practice clinical tool.Anna has a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) and a Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) from the University of Queensland. She has also completed a 2-year post-graduate qualification in Paediatric Social Work from the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children, Sydney. Anna is an accredited mental health specialist with the Australian Association of Social Workers.Anna’s interest in working with trauma grew and extended across to the child protection field with a particular interest in sexual abuse and its trauma related problems for children. This work led Anna into the forensic field of child protection, having written many social assessment reports and has provided expert evidence for Family Court, Children’s Court and the Children’s tribunal both in New South Wales and Queensland.This interest also led Anna into a unique opportunity working with the Indigenous communities in Far North Queensland including the Atherton Tablelands and Cape Tribulation in co-developing, with the elders of the communities, domestic violence and sexual abuse programs for children and adolescent. This program focused on providing clinical support and training to the Mothers, Aunties and Grandmothers about the impact of their own abuse history, so they are able to identify indicators of abuse, the impact of abuse on children, safety planning and healing through their unique culture and storytelling.
