Our hope is to build better-informed and more compassionate approaches to bereavement, grief, trauma and wellbeing across higher education and improve the support that students and staff receive in vulnerable moments.

The Student Grief Network (part of Kaplan International) is a student-founded organisation dedicated to softening the impact of bereavement in Higher Education. We specialise in training, consultancy, workshops and events. We are committed to breaking down stigmas and better equipping students, staff, and institutions to have difficult conversations and create a culture of care. The New Normal is a peer-peer support charity that connects people through their grief and mental health.

Working on the Together Better programme in collaboration with GPs across the borough of Hackney. We support patients to join and set up new groups and activities to support their health and wellbeing, learn new skills, and build community. Everything we do is free, delivered by local people, for local people.

Short-term contract with Explore Learning, an award-winning tuition company, championing children to thrive in their education and beyond. As assistant director in the West Hampstead branch, I ensured that the centre ran smoothly and delivered the best possible service. I was responsible for leading and developing the wonderful tutors, working directly with students and their families, and growing the membership.

Working in a small team to deliver befriending volunteer networks across the city with the goal of promoting social inclusion and wellness among older people. The role included: managing and supporting volunteer/client relationships by assessing needs and challenges; providing information; collating and monitoring data; and regularly checking in on a personal level. Communicating and co-operating with other services - within Age UK Leeds and externally - was crucial to ensure clients and volunteers received the best support possible.

The Bereaved Student Network aims to connect grieving students with others who 'get it' and provide informal peer-led support. We want to enable students to address their grief by hosting a wide-range of events, from discussion groups and creative workshops, to film showings and talks. By providing resources and creating inclusive, non-judgmental spaces, bereaved students can better understand what they are going through and how they can cope. As president I am responsible for developing the overall vision of the group, initiating events and activities, and bringing the rest of the committee together.

When I first joined the BSN committee, I was responsible for reaching out to students and providing informal support by planning and leading regular discussion groups and creative workshops. These had the aim of helping members express and process their grief in a friendly environment.

Throughout my time at University I wrote for both the ‘Arts’ and ‘Views’ sections of the student newspaper. I developed my research, writing, and editing skills in order to produce high quality work under strict time constraints.

As office assistant I worked closely with other team members, including the director and deputy-director, to support their work on a day-to-day basis. Much of this involved administrative tasks like answering the phone and replying to emails, arranging appointments, making bookings, sorting through paperwork and updating the database. I also enjoyed supporting the Trusts and Foundations Manager by researching and creating background profiles for potential grant-givers.

Through the Laidlaw Research and Leadership Scholarship I undertook two six-week summer placements with the Geraldine Connor Foundation, an organisation supporting local artists and celebrating cultural forms from across the world. It was my job to research and document the social and personal impact of arts experiences, as well as more generally involve myself in the day-to-day work of the charity.

In leading the Theatre Outreach Society, I was responsible for collaborating with outside institutions to create, organise and deliver drama-based projects. The majority of our work took place in primary schools and explored themes such as self-esteem, relationships, and safety. The aim was to raise awareness of important issues and explore them at a personal level through enjoyable activities, all the while connecting students with the wider community.

I represented the University at events such as open days, conferences, and fairs. It was my role to make sure guests felt welcome and had all the information that they needed, while engaging them in relevant conversations about the experiences that the University offers.
