This year I am one of three students of the Dance Department running an event called Studio 7. Studio 7 is a monthly gallery and performance event for emerging artists in Montreal. I have been the main promoter: my job has included social media support, public speaking, contacting administrators, and other networking. Included in the marketing is selling the event to presenters, performers, audience members, and volunteers. I also have a hand in the curating of both the gallery and performance. The three of us split equally the responsibilities of organizing the performers/presenters before the show and backstage, in addition to acting as MC and run crew for the performance.

The Art Matters Festival is a completely student coordinated 2-week art festival held annually in Montreal. It features work from hundreds of Concordia University students and is curated by Fine Arts students in professional galleries and venues. This year the Studio 7 Crew (see below entry) curated a one-night performance event. With 10 groups of artists and collaborators, we created an immersive, 3hr experience in the huge Loyola Chapel. The theme for our event was based off of our Studio 7 theme of collaboration; we combined artforms such as dance, video, visual art, electroacoustics, and circus in ways that both showcased the artists’ work and encouraged new perspectives on it.This event required us to be extremely organized and collaborative in our efforts, both with each other and the event coordinators. Everything from the curation of the event, the technical aspects (lighting, sound, and staging), and the budgeting fell to us as well as more minor aspects such as organizing the delivery of work and equipment, and organizing the artists and volunteers before, during, and after the show.

I was the office intern for the arts-service organization Boston Dance Alliance. My tasks include making cold calls to members and companies, the organization and transfer of data and files, and performing research on my own to aid the employees of Boston Dance Alliance in their tasks. I have experience in selling memberships to those members who have lapsed and others who are interested. I was also required to do other, varied tasks on an as-needed basis, such as visiting businesses to form partnerships that benefit our members. I assisted the owner of and teacher at East Coast Dance Studio. I assisted Michelle Puopolo with classes ranging from 5-year-olds to 14-year-olds. I also taught multiple classes while she was unavailable.
