Since 2004, I've been shaping the field of business and human rights, and since 2019, the field of just transition and what it means for companies. I'm the founder and CEO of Human Level, an expert advisory firm equipping future-focused companies to be human rights proactive in a rapidly changing climate. 🌍 I’ve advised hundreds of companies, investors, and lawyers around the globe on how to embed a people-centered approach into business strategies, policies and processes, in a way that is aligned with authoritative soft law and upcoming hard law. My work includes advising Boards of Directors, serving on company advisory councils, acting as an independent human rights expert for grievance mechanisms, and mediating OECD National Contact Point cases. I’ve worked extensively across Africa and Asia, leading human rights impact assessments, convening relevant stakeholders and facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogues. Before founding Human Level, I worked with John Ruggie at the Harvard Kennedy School on the development of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and worked with Shift, the leading centre of expertise on the UN Guiding Principles, where I played a key role in developing the UN Guiding Principles Reporting Framework. My background also includes roles as a corporate lawyer at Jones Day in New York, an international human rights lawyer at the pro bono Nobel Peace Prize-nominated PILPG, and a development lawyer at the World Bank. I remain a Senior Advisor at Shift, and a Peace Fellow at PILPG. I have three bars in New York, England & Wales, and France (currently non-practicing), and hold an LL.M. in International Law from American University Washington College of Law, a Master's in Business and Human Rights Law from the University of Paris X, and certificates in Business Sustainability Management from Cambridge and MBA Essentials from the London School of Economics.
