Constructed in situ voltammetric sensors (mercury/gold amalgam electrodes) for the study of reduced analytes in seawater, porewater, and sediments. Deployed and maintained sensitive analytical instruments (voltammetric sensors, optodes) in sandy coastal sediments and estuarine environments to study biogeochemical reactions across the sediment water interface for long term monitoring. Processed in situ data using MATLAB and Microsoft Excel. Participated in a 12 day cruise on the R/V Falkor to study soluble iron speciation in the Loihi Seamount plume. Maintained laboratory safety, hazardous waste generator, and radiation safety certifications.

Prepared and participated in 17 day research cruise on the R/V Savannah to determine the biogeochemical cycles controlling carbon remineralization in continental shelf sediments. Collected, processed, and analyzed benthic chamber and sediment core porewater samples for soluble reactive phosphorus, reduced iron and manganese, chloride, nitrate, nitrite, sulfate, sulfide, using spectrophotometry, chromatographic methods, and in situ voltammetry.

Led groups of 6+ adolescents (ages 13-17) in a clinically based, therapeutic wilderness backpacking program. Ensured the health and safety of the group in a wilderness setting for 8 day rotations. Implemented therapeutic treatment plans uniquely adapted to each client as delegated by a clinician, such as facilitating therapeutic groups and focusing on individual student assignments. Taught and practiced low impact camping, maintained radio and satellite phone communications with headquarters, and documented students’ progress.
