I worked in close collaboration with the USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station to test alternative methods to Methyl bromide for eradicating pests and pathogen from infested hardwood logs destined for export from the United States. Tested and fine-tuned methods for rapid detection of the oak wilt pathogen, Ceratocystis fagacearum, nested PCR, and real time PCR assays. Detection methods were compared to traditional diagnostic techniques and tested for use in plant diagnostic laboratories. The nested PCR protocol tested is now currently operational at numerous plant disease diagnostic.

Aided in development of a dual assay which was focused on the detection of Geosmithia morbida, the pathogen associated with thousand cankers disease of black walnut, as well as other fungi obtained off of walnut twig beetles (Pityophthorus juglandis).
