I was asked to join the Leadership Team of a ministry for moms after only one year of attending as a mother of a preschooler. Quickly, I found my place as Publicity Coordinator. I created a website for the new ministry (previously MOPS). I am also responsible for the logo creation and all branding/marketing material.

While completing my 3 year term with Stroller Strides, I went to work for Atlee community Church. This was not a job for amateurs in the administrative field. There I was the assistant to the entire staff of the church, and I was, what my husband calls, “The Director of First Impressions”. I enjoyed being the go-to for so many people. I solved their admin problems with my experience and I brought their ideas to fruition through creatively executing what was just a thought in their head. I created the Sunday program and slides for two Campuses as well as all communication cards and inserts. I really enjoyed this job, but there was something missing when it comes to me using my creativity to directly serve and encourage people who haven’t experienced a life with Jesus. I developed an online ministry on Facebook that has attracted close to 900 fans. There people could ask the hard questions on chat and feel like they are in a safe place. I have found that people who normally wouldn’t seek help, do so online. I resigned my position after the birth of my second child.

I took my love for moms, kids, fitness, diet and family togetherness, and ventured out on my own as a business owner. I became a franchisee for Stroller Strides. Stroller Strides took all of my loves and passions and rolled them all into one. As an owner and nationally certified instructor, I used my experience in networking, promotions, database management, and Community Wellness and focused on moms, moms to be, and their babies. I even got certified as a Fit4Baby instructor, to help moms prepare their minds and bodies for child birth. I personally loved it when I made a mom sweat, and she actually thanked me for it. I ran my own website, handled all promotional materials in house, and communicated with the media through press releases as well as being interviewed on the morning talk show, Virginia This Morning. I developed relationships with co-sponsoring companies such as Luna, Happy Baby, Stride Rite, Spree, Bob Strollers and various other business and traded advertising. I learned here very quickly that event planning is not a one person job, but I enjoyed sponsoring silent auctions and fundraisers, and a film festival for moms that raised money for the Breast Cancer Society and Fresh Start for single moms and their babies. This is an amazing program for single moms that have nowhere else to turn for assistance, education, and support.

With my success in the assistant role at the Virginia Recreation and Park Society, I was then promoted to the Director of Administration. In this position I completed and assisted in many of the responsibilities listed above while attending Board and Committee meetings. I completed monthly and weekly newsletters, and agendas for the committee members to follow to ensure that all business was taken care of during the allotted meeting times. I created and distributed brochures to advertise events and finally, I controlled all ad placements in the statewide publications for the Park Society.

While I was finishing up my high school years and college degree, I worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Virginia Recreation and Park Society. I completed administrative and clerical duties and managed the Parks and Recreation Database for the State of Virginia. This was a very difficult task for a 16 year old, but I conquered every project they put in front of me. I didn’t know exactly what to expect when I went into work every day, but being a self starter, I taught myself how to find information on completing each task and completed them with careful diligence. So much so, that the Virginia Recreation and Park Society awarded me with the “Best promotional” award at our yearly conference. I designed marketing materials and communicated special events. I also designed and updated daily, the Society’s website. This I enjoyed very much at such a young age, and have held on to this love for web design through the years.

While attaining my degree, in 2005 I began my internship with Bon Secours Richmond Health Systems. There I aided in the revision of their Employee Wellness Incentive Program. This program improved the overall health of every enrolled member of the staff that worked in Bon Secours. I worked with adults of all ages to achieve their dreams of a new dietary and fitness way of life. I counseled and coached employees on these healthy lifestyles and assisted them with disease prevention. I developed a six month smoking cessation program. I loved the little wins in this program. I loved seeing people who thought they were against the hardest wall of their lives, break through and take responsibility for themselves and their actions. Seeing a person overcome an adverse situation soon became a focus of mine. I learned here that anyone can do anything if they put their heart into it.
