SmuAI is a student-led initiative proudly supported by the Singapore Management University Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SMU IIE). Centre Human-Animal Connection (CHAC) is an organization dedicated to enhancing the mental well-being of individuals by helping them find purpose and meaning in their lives. Our therapy interventions include the incorporation of animals to assist individuals in gaining greater insight into their thoughts and emotions, developing stronger social and emotional intelligence.

Halogen began in 2003, when two young people realised the value of stories that inspire. Just like halogens-a group of extremely reactive elements-a youth’s influence is something that should be stewarded well. Through curated programmes, they set out on a journey to help transform youth into good people and great leaders who would in turn impact their own communities in a deep and meaningful way.I have recently completed the training session to be a trainer with Halogen and I am in the midst of clocking my on-the-job training hours to graduate as an Associate Trainer. Trainers and Facilitators play a huge role in catalysing learning experiences. With the right skills, we can learn how to harness the power of our stories and experiences to positively influence another.

I served as the first President of the Interact Club of Sembawang and we first launched on 15th June 2022 with Minister Ong Ye Kung as our guest of honour. Interact Club of Sembawang (ICS) is a club comprising of members from 15-19 years old, comprising of students from all over Singapore. ICS is a club by youths, for youths. ICS is the first ever public health focused interact club and we aim to organise health-related programmes in the area of Sembawang. Some of our initiatives include inculcating healthy eating and exercise habits in young children, providing mental health support for youth, and organising social activities for the elderly. We also have initiatives like Migrant Health Matters (MHM) where we work with Healthserve to conduct health check-ups for migrant workers, as well as Kaki-Lai Neighbours where we work with Yishun Health to support fellow residents in need (such as with grocery shopping, packing of food, medication reminders and more).

During my attachment, I had the privilege of working under the mentorship of esteemed professionals, including Ms. Bernissa Chia, Ms. Tania Ng, Joel, Ester, and Joey, alongside a dedicated schoolmate. My primary responsibility was to conduct a comprehensive analysis of historical population statistics and related reports, culminating in a detailed summary that identified key trends and proposed strategic amendments to existing policies aimed at addressing pressing demographic challenges.Focusing primarily on the ageing population in Singapore, I explored the implications of this trend on social services and community welfare. I actively contributed to policy drafting and developed pitch decks to effectively communicate my ideas, presenting findings and recommendations to department heads. This experience not only honed my analytical and policy development skills but also enhanced my ability to convey complex concepts to stakeholders. Additionally, I collaborated on ongoing projects within the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), leveraging insights from my research to bolster the effectiveness of these initiatives.Through this multifaceted role, I gained valuable insights into the complexities surrounding demographic shifts in our society and the importance of strategic policy responses.

During my internship, I was honored to be attached to the Regional Health System (RHS) department at Changi General Hospital (CGH), a newly established entity as of January 2018, following the Ministry of Health’s strategic reorganization into three integrated clusters: NHG, SingHealth, and NUHS. Under the mentorship of Dr. How Choon How, my group was tasked with a project that involved producing a series of informative videos aimed at both educating CGH staff and raising public awareness about the various programs and facilities offered by the RHS.Throughout this enriching experience, my group engaged directly with program managers from various initiatives within CGH, gaining invaluable insights into their operations and objectives, which informed our video content. Additionally, I had the unique opportunity to interact closely with a dedicated social worker, allowing me to explore the nuances of her vital role. Eager to contribute meaningfully, I volunteered to accompany her on a home visit to assist a patient who was physically unable to maintain their living space. Alongside a team of compassionate nurses and staff, I helped to clean and organize the patient’s home, reinforcing the importance of holistic care in the community.This internship not only enhanced my understanding of healthcare dynamics but also deepened my commitment to fostering public health awareness and community support.
