Experienced Postdoctoral Research Associate specializing in host-pathogen interactions, with a specific focus on the mechanisms of bacterial uptake into cells. I possess expertise in employing a multidisciplinary approach to address complex questions regarding how bacterial effectors modify host cell signaling, contributing to our understanding of various disease pathologies. I am highly skilled in designing, executing, and managing research projects that integrate diverse techniques, including cell biology, protein biochemistry, microbiology, and fluorescence microscopy. Additionally, I am proficient in effectively communicating, discussing, and evaluating research findings both orally and in written form.

Postdoctoral Research AssociateUniversity Of Cambridge Oct 2014 - Aug 2024Cambridgeshire, England, United KingdomInvestigating the interaction between pathogenic bacteria and host cells to better understand complex cell signalling networks, particularly those associated with Rho GTPases, their interaction partners and the actin cytoskeleton:Cloning using PCR, GATEWAY and Gibson assembly of numerous actin/GTPase related proteins, including hybrids with unique localisation domains. Microporation and lipid-based transfection and maintenance of multiple mammalian cell lines (including HEK, HeLa, MEF, CaCo and macrophages) for transient protein expression, and generation of stable cell-lines. Immunoprecipitation of ALFA- and GFP- tagged proteins (Using ALFA/GFP-traps) to analyse protein-protein interactions and for protein purification. TIRF and standard fluorescence microscopy to visualise transfected and immune-stained cells. Infection-based assays using Salmonella, pathogenic E. coli (EPEC/EHEC), Shigella and Vaccinina virus to look at invasion, protein recruitment and pathogen driven actin-reorganisation. Protein purification and pull-down assays (on lipid membranes) using transfected cell and pig-brain extracts; analysing complex protein platforms that mimic those found at the cell membrane.Supervision and mentoring of multiple undergraduate project students. Devised and managed to successful completion the projects of PhD students, supervising them daily and critically reading theses. Developed and managed projects within a team of post-docs and PhDs resulting in highly productive and collaborative data generation . Written numerous scientific articles published in well-regarded peer-reviewed journals, and effectively presented findings at multiple scientific conferences. Involved in the experimental design, project outlines and writing of grant applications submitted by the lab.
