Conducting research in Clustering and Community Detection algorithms, with a focus on analyzing chromatin images. Under the guidance of PhD Irene Farabella, I am investigating how clustering algorithms can contribute to deciphering 3D chromatin structures from point-cloud imaging data obtained through Single Molecule Localization Microscopy (SMLM) experiments.The code I am developing will be integrated into the group’s python library, CIMA (Chromatin IMaging Analysis tool, currently unpublished), aimed at automating the processing and analysis of chromatin imaging data.

Research in Quantum Combinatorial Optimization, with a particular focus on Vehicle Routing Problems. I investigated how quantum optimization could provide new strategies to tackle challenging combinatorial problems. I tested several algorithms on different instances of Capacitated VRP, including: Adiabatic Quantum Computation, Variational Quantum Algorithms (QAOA, VQE) and Quantum Graver Augmented Multi-seed Algorithm (GAMA). My thesis pioneers the application of Quantum GAMA to CVRP. Additionally, I introduced an innovative Modularity Maximization approach, based on a customized implementation of Louvain Community Detection algorithm, enhancing the classical “Cluster first, Route second” heuristic commonly employed for solving large CVRP instances. Throughout the project, I used Gurobi as a classical benchmarking solver.
