At M+R, I helped large, national nonprofits to grow their community and activate supporters to commit funds and mobilize for change. My teams helped clients with fundraising and marketing strategy, audience segmentation, copy and creative, implementation, and data analysis. We worked strategically on every channel that could be leveraged to reach people - email, mail, websites, advertising, social media, text message, and press. As a Vice President, I acted on the Senior Leadership team to craft and modify workplace policies and practices with an equitable lens, for example: performance expectations, work assignments, decision-making processes. As head of the Meetings Team, I orchestrated monthly all-staff and department-wide meetings aimed at informing, motivating, and fostering connection. As Marketing Area Lead, I oversaw the publication of insights and strategies that were useful for nonprofits, including the annual M+R Benchmarks Study. Check it out at www.mrbenchmarks.com

In addition to leading and coaching 3-4 client teams as an Account Supervisor, I directly supervised 3 people via weekly check-ins and twice-a-year formal reviews.

As an Account Supervisor at M+R, I drove the strategy for fundraising programs of large, national nonprofits. I created annual and campaign-level plans to maximize revenue and increase donors’ lifetime value. I pushed nonprofits to grow monthly donor programs, leverage automated messaging, and use innovative practices such as peer-to-peer texting for stewardship. I helped organizations through CRM transitions. I provided recruitment and coaching strategy for an annual peer-to-peer fundraising 5k. I specialized in helping nonprofits reach new audiences through social media. I was also the project manager for implementing these plans. Through weekly team meetings and 1:1 coaching sessions, I led the teams to execute marketing campaigns and data analysis, balancing client needs with staff workload and motivation.

As a Senior Associate at M+R, I mastered all the skills required to execute a complex email marketing and fundraising program, from drafting copy to implementation to reporting. I also coached Associates in learning the new role, balancing their priorities, and working effectively in a team.

I started working for M+R on my birthday in 2011. What a gift to work with smart, driven people who cared about making the world a better place as much as I did!In 2011, I was a pioneer in the practice of using Facebook Ads to bring in new prospective donors. Today, practically all nonprofits with advertising budget spend on Facebook - in fact, 42% of nonprofits' fundraising ad budget in 2020 was spent on social media advertising, according to the M+R Benchmarks Study (www.mrbenchmarks.com). But at the time, it was an innovative way to reach potential supporters. I helped to pitch clients to be early adopters and figured out best practices to make the ad spend cost efficient.
As a freelance administrative assistant, I helped my clients do whatever was needed to make their business/organization run smoothly. My first step was helping them identify and prioritize what they needed done. I would estimate hours necessary and set up project timelines. Services rendered included data entry and organizing a database of contacts/donors, conducting literature review and writing research summaries, bookeeping and invoicing, and other miscellaneous administrative duties. I also helped to hire other freelance professionals to take on portions of the work. Clients included the Semi-Colon Club (a small colon cancer awareness nonprofit) and Behavioral Health Consulting (a small social science research firm).
As the Communications Intern, I helped NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland upkeep its website, blog, Twitter, Facebook, Meetup, Myspace, and Youtube. In 3 months, I increased Twitter following by 70% and wrote 24 blog entries.I tracked the impact of various communications methods and wrote weekly and monthly communications reports using quantitative data (Google Analytics, FB Insights, site meters) and qualitative data (Google Analytics, Google Alerts for press coverage, observation).I also helped with various non-communications tasks such as community outreach, phone banks, lobbying, event planning and office work. I participated in 2 local campaigns to protect Maryland women from crisis pregnancy centers. I helped to plan and implement the annual fundraising gala.
I was a member of JHU Students for Choice, the Johns Hopkins University student activist group focused on reproductive rights and sexual health. As a leading member of the group, I participated in strategic planning and recruitment. I also took minutes of meetings. As the webmaster, I created from scratch a website that featured information about the group and its events, news updates, activism links, and sexual health resources. I created a brochure of nearby sexual health resources to be distributed throughout the student body as well as other informational handouts and fact sheets.
