The Swedish Export Credits Guarantee Board (EKN) is a government agency tasked to promote Swedish exports and the internationalisation of Swedish companies. This mission is carried out by insuring export companies and banks against the risk of non-payment in export transactionsThe position I currently hold as senior underwriter at the Department for Small and Medium-Sized companies incorporates on the one hand credit analyses of exporting companies and their customers as well as market analyses and on the other hand outreach activities such as direct sales meetings, presentations and participation in conferences, to raise awareness about EKN and its services.

In this role, I was the interface of the Deutsche Post DHL Group with governments, industry organisations, think tanks and other key stakeholders around Southeast Asia. I supported the four business divisions of DHL with strategic advice, communication and counsel on the policy and regulatory environment in Southeast Asia, conducted analyses of economic policies, trade policies, laws and regulations affecting trade, customs, transport and logistics sectors (including air cargo security) as well as advocacy up to ministerial level in the above-mentioned sectors with a view of minimising the operational impact on DHL and its customers. In this capacity, I was also elected Chair of the Transport and Logistics Working Group of the European Business Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia in March 2014, representing and leading advocacy for the world's leading logistics companies in policy and regulatory matters in Indonesia. In addition, I was co-chairing the Customs Advocacy Group of the EU-ASEAN Business Council.

In this role, I worked for three different sections of the EU Delegation:1) Economy and trade policy: Advocacy, reporting, legal analyses and representation on trade and investment policy issues related to a wide range of trade policy issues, such as customs, aviation safety, SPS, and TBT , IPR, infrastructure and energy, in close collaboration with EU Member States based in Indonesia;2) Development cooperation: Reporting and analysing public financial management and macroeconomic issues and policies in Indonesia as a crucial part of evaluation of EU budget support to Indonesia in social sectors;3) Economic cooperation: Support the Economic Cooperation Section with policy input to design and evaluate trade and economic cooperation programmes between the EU and Indonesia, and to some extent project management.

VFS International is a finance company within the business area Volvo Financial Services, at the time providing long term financing for companies on emerging markets to support purchases of Volvo heavy duty trucks and long haul buses. I had a responsibility for sales financing activities in Bosnia-Herzegovina (Republika Srpska), Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro. This included frequent travelling to the Balkan region to negotiate with customers (most often at CEO level) and sales departments concerning credit conditions, as well as acting on non-payment cases in a very complex regulatory and legal environment. Daily work included credit assessments, analyses of cash flow and business plans as well as of political and legal risks, continuous improvements of credit contracts and weekly presentations of new credits to a management credit committee.

Bangkok Metropolitan Area, Thailand

Volvo’s Thai company manufactured, marketed and sold trucks and buses. My role was a four month project, to enhance the administrative routines for long term direct customer financing of Volvo trucks, and to implement these rules and routines with marketing, in close cooperation with the Managing Director and the CFO.

This role included reporting and monitoring accounts receivables and customer financing receivables of Volvo’s customers of trucks and spare parts, as well as ensuring that proper credit and other documents were complete for delivering vehicles to customers. An important part of the work was also to handle trade finance transactions such as letters of credits, bank guarantees and bills of exchange.This implied close communication and coordination with customers, banks, legal counsels, commercial departments, local dealers/agents and market departments. Countries under my responsibility included northern (French speaking) Africa, Middle East, Belarus and Russia. I was furthermore in charge of the monthly reporting of the provisions of accounts receivables and bad debts, outstanding accounts receivables and analysis of payment history to executive management levels of Volvo Truck Corporation.
