Computer Science And Software Engineering Teaching Assistant

Terre Haute, In, Us

In this position, I was a teaching assistant for the Introduction to Software Development course. Many freshman Computer Science and Software Engineering students (maybe some other majors as well) take this course and it is the first time they learn how to program. The course teaches students the basics developing code through the Python programming language. My specific duties included answering student questions during class lectures when they were given work time and assisting the professor as needed.

Dec 2015 - Feb 2016

Software Engineering Intern

Whitestown, Indiana, Us

The summer began with only knowledge of how to connect and pair Bluetooth devices. After weeks of reading numerous sources and watching informational videos on Bluetooth Low Energy, I started to research Android App development using Android Studio using available BLE demo applications on the developer site. This provided a solid ground of understanding before diving into building a proof-of-concept prototype from a development kit.One development kit required the use of a serial terminal and commands in order to set up configurations of the Bluetooth module. While this too provided an even deeper understanding of Bluetooth Low Energy and how to create a custom GATT Service with the multiple types of characteristics, it was found that another development kit may provide a better prototype for demonstration. With just over two weeks remaining in the summer, the project switched gears to a kit which required an interesting scripting language and seemed to be easier to implement for the simple purposes we desired. In the short time left, I was able to provide a fully functional prototype with the existing product and compatibility with both Android and Apple devices. Apple app development was not possible, however, the prototype included a heavily modified BLE Android demo app which was able to display a health device's desired test results at a simple press of a menu option.

Math Tutor

Individually worked with students aged K-10 in various ways. Depending on a student's needs, we would re-visit concepts or move forward with workbook problems. Almost everyone had a different preference for practicing their skills including chalkboard and whiteboard quizzes, flashcard races, and online games. This position required great patience and repetition and some days were more difficult than others, but being able to learn about all of these children and their very different personalities was one of the most rewarding things. I was almost always leaving with a smile on my face because of the things they did or said.

Dec 2014 - May 2015

Chemical Engineering Intern

Fort Wayne, In, Us

For the entire term of the internship, data was collected and compiled for statistical inference in Excel concerning the lives of submerged entry nozzles (SENs) used in the continuous casting process. Over 15 hours of indentation hardness tests were also completed on steel micro samples to more closely view the effects of changing small aspects during casting and molding. In completing the mentioned tasks, many interesting trends were found and thus provided the company hypotheses to further research beyond the summer months.

Jun 2014 - Aug 2014

Office Assistant

Indianapolis, Indiana, Us

Period of employment included the summer of 2012 and 2013, as well as December of 2012 through January 2013.The main focus of this position was to organize the process used to receive acknowledgements on orders for doors and hardware. I checked for price discrepancies, missing items, and incorrect part numbers by comparing the information in a PO system and the PDF documents sent by manufacturers. All information was tracked in a custom Excel spreadsheet I created for easily compiling dates, phone numbers, or notes regarding orders. To troubleshoot unusual findings, phone calls and emails were shared with manufacturers' customer service individuals and the warehouse would be searched by myself for received or missing/late shipments.
