Profile bio

About Ashley Bocanegra

As a Director of Strategic Accounts for Project Lead the Way, my focus is to support districts in expanding their PLTW program offerings to not only make STEM accessible for all students, but to inspire teachers to fall in love with teaching again through the unique pedagogy strategies PLTW core training offers. As a former high school science and PLTW educator, I am passionate about STEM education and the impact it has on students' lives, regardless of their future career aspirations. I am a life-long learner who is committed to produce excellence, capitalize on every learning opportunity, and live each day with eagerness to grow in knowledge and skill. Supporting educators and schools in growing their STEM pathways is what sparks joy and fulfillment through my work. It is my goal to be fully invested in helping students, educators, schools and districts in both California and Hawaii achieve success. My proudest accomplishment as an educator is knowing that my work has had direct, positive impact on student lives. I have had many students ask me for letters of recommendation for college, but in the last 10 years specifically, students have shared that the program I built and manage, Project Lead the Way (PLTW), inspired them to choose a career in STEM. When I initially became involved with PLTW, the program was in its infancy and failing. Student attrition was high, and the program was at risk of closure. I began with teaching one course and coordinating the program. Since then, it has grown to three different 4-year STEM pathways (BioMed, Engineering and Computer Science) with 10 different PLTW courses offered. Our school's PLTW students and teachers host STEAM nights at local elementary schools and takes students on field trips to gain insight from industry leaders like the UCLA Pathology Lab and NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. I launched the GEMS Club (Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science), and hosted an annual Women's Empowerment Day on campus. The STEM program is now the largest in our district among 19 comprehensive high schools. I find tremendous joy and fulfillment knowing that PLTW has changed the lives of hundreds of students and helped to build the next generation of leaders in careers in STEM.
