COMCorps exists to get things done! We are strengthening communities and developing member leadership skills by planning and implementing activities that promote health, prevent disease and improve access to medical care. COMCorps programs align with a model focusing primarily on obesity prevention and reducing the increasingly alarming rates of obesity among our school-aged population. This model will be used in the planning, implementing, and evaluating activities such as the Live Healthy Kids curriculum along with gardening education and outreach. These programs are determined to decrease BMIs of youth across Athens County and expanded area through engaging students, family, and community members to play an active role in their health and well-being with nutrition and garden education while increasing access to healthy fresh food. Additional initiatives include hearing, vision, and lice screenings to fill a medical service gap for individuals. As a COMCorps member, I support and implement community and associate health and wellness initiatives and recruit volunteers for regional OhioHealth programs and community health and wellness initiatives. I coordinate, develop, and implement OhioHealth sponsored workshops and health and wellness activities and screenings. Engaging in and reporting logic model initiatives including, engaging associates and community members in nutrition education, conducting healthy food outreach and donation station extended outreach to patients and community members, and physical activity promotion through the My First 5K and other sponsored or hosted events by O'Bleness Hospital.
